Dog to dog clinic

The dog to dog behaviour clinic takes place on the third Monday of the month at the Connaught house Vets, 38 Broad St, Kingswinford, West Midlands, DY6 9LP

Many people find it a nightmare walking down the road with their dog because their dog lunges and barks at any other dog that it meets.  This is stressful and embarrassing not to mention no fun for dog and owner.  It is also potentially damaging for the other dog concerned.  Often these dogs that are unable to cope normally with meeting other dogs get walked late at night when no one else is around, not walked at all or they end up at a rescue centre.

Never fear there is much that can be done to improve the situation. I now run a regular monthly behaviour clinic at the Connaught House Vets in Kingswinford specialising in just this type of problem.  Dog to dog problems are the most common problem that I am asked to help with.

The first task is to work out why the dog is behaving in this way.  Dogs can behave like this for a number of reasons, primarily fearfulness arising from poor socialisation as a puppy or a due to a bad experience.  Barking and lunging aggressively is an effective strategy to get the other dog to go away.  Alternatively, they might behave uncontrollably around other dogs because they are frustrated at not being able to have contact with the other dog.  Often it is a combination all of the above!

This type of problem benefits from practical follow up work interacting with friendly dogs in a safe and controlled environment.  I have the experience and facilities to offer this kind of rehabilitation training - leading to much improvement and enjoyment on dog walks!

The initial consultation at the veterinary surgery costs £100and includes a written report and telephone or email follow up.

Ideally the initial consultation would be followed  by at least two follow up appointments at the showground in Shrewsbury. The practical follow up appointment includes myself, an/other dog/s and another dog handler and is charged at £60. I can also provide follow up in your area or a dog walking area in Shrewsbury charged at £40.
