Dog to dog consult

Many people find it a nightmare walking down the road with their dog because their dog lunges and barks at any other dog that it meets.  This is stressful and embarrassing not to mention no fun for dog and owner.  It is also potentially damaging for the other dog concerned.  Often these dogs that are unable to cope normally with meeting other dogs get walked late at night when no one else is around, not walked at all or they end up at a rescue centre.

Dog to dog problems are the most common problem that I am asked to help with.  Never fear there is much that can be done to improve the situation!

The first task is to work out why the dog is behaving in this way.  Dogs can behave like this for a number of reasons, primarily fearfulness arising from poor socialisation as a puppy or a due to a bad experience.  Barking and lunging aggressively is an effective strategy to get the other dog to go away.  Alternatively, they might behave uncontrollably around other dogs because they are frustrated at not being able to have contact with the other dog.  Often it is a combination all of the above!

For uncomplicated dog to dog problems I offer a specific programme. The initial consultation is at your house and we will usually go for a walk so I can see the behaviour at first hand.  I then provide a simple report allowing you to spend more on on practical follow up work which is particularly useful with this type of problem. The initial consultation and report is priced at £100 (+ travel at 50p/mile).  This is then ideally followed up by at least two additional appointments at the showground in Shrewsbury. The follow up appointments include myself, an/other dog/s and another dog handler and is charged at £60. I can also meet you for follow up in your own environment and on your local walks or at a dog walking area in shrewsbury (£40/hour+travel).
